Summer

Nice weather has arrived. I rode to a park on a beach today which was mobbed with crowds of eager beach-goers, most of whom were not social distancing. People seem to think the virus is over. I hope that mistaken belief doesn't cause more illness.

  1. Yep. Same here. About 50% were wearing masks (incorrectly mostly). Nobody distancing.

And that was only at the grocery.

I live in a lower income area and people are staked out on sidewalks like usual, huddled in groups, laying out merch in parking lots.

Most of the measures being taken are performative theater at best.

Add in the protests (people gathering) plus Tennessee being 75% open - We're definitely looking at an upswing.

Even the news outlets have seemed to shrug off talking about coronavirus.

    1. Humans are their own enemy. We know what we shouldn't do and yet do it anyway.

  2. Yep. In the Twin Cities people are acting like it's all over. The restaurants are packed to the brim, people are out shopping. It's scary. I pretty much just go to work and home because I don't trust anyone. It's really sad.

  3. Between the ionization effect of the waves, the heat, the sea breeze and open air being at the beach is one of the safest places to be. Indoors, without a breeze is when the virus does the most damage.
There does not seem to be much social distancing at the protests/riots/looting. The rioters and looters seem to have the mask concept down pat but you still see about half the crowds without face covering

  4. Isn't it awful that people have so little discipline? It's the same here in Belgium. It's so crowded with shoppers in Antwerp, most of them not keeping the required distance and ignoring the arrows painted on the sidewalks, indicating the direction. There was somebody who almost walked straight into me today, and when I stepped out of the way, she said "boo". It's very hard to stay calm and collected. xxx

  5. That looks gorgeous - as you know, our beaches are not that sandy up here! People and the distancing...I get what Pat's saying, but I'm still so leery of being that close to people.

  6. Ahh, beautiful late spring days make me so happy! I'm with you, though- definitely concerned when I see people not social distancing or wearing masks when they are in crowds. COVID-19 isn't done with us yet, unfortunately!

  7. I know, it's disappointing to see so many not wearing masks or distancing...unfortunately it's not over yet but I guess people got tired of it!

  8. Goodness, do I second that hope! While the number of cases has been relatively low (all things considered) here in BC, and the number of fatalities miraculously low (less than 200 so far, if I'm not mistaken), that doesn't mean that we're out of the woods yet or that this virus won't come back with a vengeance in subsequent waves.

Personally, we're not dropping our guard one iota yet and remain in strict self-isolation on our property, only going out for provisions once every few weeks.

But enough serious talk! What lovely, fabulously summery shots you've captured here, Ally. The one of the kite is particularly serene and evocative of the carefreeness that summer is intended to house.

    1. The border to your country is still closed -- and my Canadian friends are glad it is. I wish we in New York could close our state borders to Florida, et al.

  9. I DO hope that things don't get worse again! The figures are still very high here and lots of people acting like it doesn't matter anymore!
