When I was young, I was enamored by the clothes adult women wore. They entranced me. One example is a dress chosen then by hip females, like my high school English teacher. Wandering through a thrift-store last Winter, I saw that exact dress on display. And it was cheap.
I snapped the dress up. I had to wear it even though it's too short. My body doesn't match the shape most women's clothes are designed for: I'm taller than the average woman so the dress is short. But... I want to wear it!
So here it is. Ignore the shortness and simply savor the style, as I'm doing.
The always wonderful sweater dress. I started wearing woman's clothes in that era. I was much thinner than I am today and I had a few lovely sweater dresses. They ran short. I think that was the purpose. Full coverage up top and plenty of leg. Of course, the up top coverage play up a ladies upper assets to their fullest.
ReplyDeleteGood pick and thanks for the walk down memory lane
Thanks, Pat.
DeleteI am DIGGING the yellow on you, it's a beautiful color!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a very happy Friday and a happy weekend!
Thanks! You, too.
DeleteWOW, that's Hot and Hip, all the best of an Era of Fashion I think really made a Statement!
ReplyDeleteThanks, pal.
DeleteNot too short! Show off those gams! Add black tights and you'll feel less "exposed".
ReplyDeleteA classic look! That color looks amazing on you.
ReplyDeleteThat's a groovy look, Ally! I'm loving that dress, and you are wearing it so much better than I ever could! xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks.
DeleteI actually don't think it looks too short here.
ReplyDeleteIn my 1990 born eye, the miniskirt/micro mini is about that long. I was always super into the 60s/70s mod and hippie looks when most people were hitting the grunge hard.
All you have to do is look at OG Star Trek ladies to see much shorter "dresses"!
That said, this is a brilliant shade of yellow on you. I'm thrilled you found a piece that let's you recapture an old desire.
Honestly, the dress is not too short for my taste. It's just that I get that comment often here from viewers and felt the need to defend myself from it in advance. I dress like I live my life -- with abandon!
DeleteThis is a FABULOUS dress on you - you look great in yellow, Ally! How fun that this is so similar to your former teacher's dress.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Yellow's a great color.
DeleteYes to the YELLOW! Looks perfect. Life is short...wear the dress!!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteLooks fabulous! And I bet you could put some knee-high boots on in the fall/winter to make it extra groovy!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!
DeleteSooo true about having a lifelong adoration for the clothing that was in style when one was younger. I would be 110% on board if 1980s clothing, alla Miami Vice, Dynasty, or The Facts of Life came back in style right now.
ReplyDeleteIt's awesome that you found this 70s gem and were able to experience firsthand what it feels like to wear a garment that made such a strong impression on you at an early age.

Ha! I'd love to see you in 80's clothes. :)
DeleteNo way! You found the dress!!? That's so cool! I like a poloneck dress- very practical for keeping the neck warm! Whilst it is not MY colour per se, you look great in it!
ReplyDeleteThank you, chica!
DeleteYou are rocking that dress with your curves!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
