Looking Back At The Year

Wow, this year flew by. It's November already and 2018 is almost at its end.

When we started the year, did you make any New Year's resolutions? Or just think about how you wanted the year to go? If so, what are your thoughts now? How well did the year compare to your hopes and expectations?

My review is positive. I clarified how I want to live the rest of my life and made concrete plans to turn that desire into reality. I'm 60 years old and looking at 20-30 years (assuming good health). I know exactly what makes me happy (friends, travel, motorcycling, living authentically, writing, blogging) and what pains me (work and its stress). The trick is to find a way to do more of the former and less of the latter, which is really a financial issue. As soon as I can afford to stop working, I will -- but I need a stockpile of cash to live for another 30 years without diminution of lifestyle. That's the goal I worked on this year and I made real progress.

How 'bout you?

P.S., Bonus points if you can identify the building in NYC with this statue.

  2. My main goal for the year was to practice more self-care. At this time last year I was in the middle of some pretty heavy anxiety, mostly due to work. In fact, on the cruise I went on at this time last year I had a breakdown and ended up sobbing. On vacation. Because of work.

Self-care has really helped me focus on me and take care of myself. I've learned ways to deal with my anxiety and feel like I've done a pretty good job. Unfortunately once again I am smack dab in the middle of work stress. I can feel the anxiety creeping up but I'm trying to use my skills to push it back down.

I hope the rest of your 2018 is WONDERFUL and you do the things that make you truly happy. And I hope your 2019 in the best year yet :)

  4. My main goal for this year is to take time off for a holiday more often. As we'll be going away for a couple of days in November, and this is our 4th trip of the year, I didn't do too badly. Good to hear that you have been making progress with yours! xxx

  5. I'm with Krysten, self-care has been a big thing for me this year. Also, giving less f**ks. :)

    Happy 60th, sweetheart!

  6. I want to know what building that is!!

I always make New Years Resolutions but I forget what they are midway through the year lol. I’ll have to be a bit more mindful and intentional with my resolutions moving forward. Also I love that you’ve given this much thought and that you are trying to devise a way to keep your lifestyle the same while working less hours/enjoying more time for yourself. That’s always the goal, isn’t it?

  9. I feel like this year went by really quickly as we stare down the end, but my sense of time is kind of warped so I never know if it was fast for everyone or if missing huge chunks of time is my issue. But my goal was to lose weight and clearly, I didn't do that but I'm taking steps for that to be a reality for next year so I guess that's progress.

  10. Happy 60th! Sounds like you have had a great year.
I had a word for the year (instead of New Years Resolutions) and it was Release. I.e release stress, negative thinking, let go of what doesn't bring joy. I could have done better - but I'm learning.

  11. Happy birthday, friend! I'm so glad to hear that you've had a good year so far. I didn't make any resolutions this year. Rather, I thought about where I want to be in the next five to ten years and set some goals that would help get me to that point. Knowing what makes you happy and how you want to spend your time is a big step toward living a healthy and happy life. :)
