To lighten my mood, I created an outfit today. It is playful. The polar opposite of serious. My motivation is simply to be girly and play around. The outfit itself is a wacky mishmash but honestly the clothes are only an excuse to have some fun. Please don't judge this as a fashion ensemble; it isn't.
I paired an out-of-season orange Summer dress with throwback sparkly leggings from the Eighties. And if that isn't weird enough, I color-blocked orange and purple, accentuated by brightly-colored flats.
The best part of this is the gaiety it provides me. A recreational high. Pulling items from my closet, imagining them in various combinations, wondering what orange looks like next to purple, I squealed with delight. I like the sheen and ruching of the leggings. I'm enjoying that kind of thing.
Dressing up is a drug for me. Sometimes intoxicating, always enjoyable. I know my clothes scare the horses but they shouldn't be out of their stable in the first place...
At least you are enjoying yourself and that is what life is all about right? :)
ReplyDeleteYup
DeleteThis is a fun look, indeed, it's bright, colorful and it's evident you were having fun wearing it :). I would wear your leggings anytime ;) Hugs

Well, I really like it as a fashion outfit- cute and pretty colours! Oh yes, and YEH, totally we are allowed to wear things backwards- there was a whole link up at Anne Bray, Spy Girl, based on it in May. I find it gives my clothes a bit of versatility, if they are items that CAN be worn backwards- shame about the itchy label in the coral dress by my neck!!! I tucked in a silk scarf to try and counteract that! x
ReplyDeleteSometimes I literally just pull stuff out of my closet and start trying it on for absolutely no reason! :)
ReplyDeleteThose leggings are pretty amazing. It's great that you have fun with dressing. A lot of people are too afraid to do that.
ReplyDeletethose leggings are friggin' awesome
ReplyDeleteYou look so happy in these photos! I LOVE the orange on you! and orange and purple go together perfectly ... so a fashion ensemble it certainly is!
ReplyDeleteThose leggings are GREAT! I feel the same way about clothes..I get excited about the endless possibilities of the ways I can mix and match things.

This is definitely a "let's do the happy dance" kind of outfit and you look great. Makes me smile and feel good just seeing it. I think the whole look is very cute.
ReplyDeleteI just love the impact that dressing up has on you. It makes me smile to see this.
ReplyDeleteClothing should be fun! I love that dress.

This reminds me of Cydi Lauper for some reason. Must be the tights.
ReplyDeleteI really like that dress actually. It is quite flattering on you.

oh so fun! I love how vibrant and this outfit is!
ReplyDeleteSuper fun look, this is making me smile on a snowy and gross day! Love the colors so much!!
ReplyDeleteI dig it. I say if it brings you joy, wear it. That's why I'm wearing sweatpants and holey underwear right now.
ReplyDeleteI guess if you were wearing holy underwear, you'd be a Mormon...
DeleteI really like this! I think it would be perfect summer-to-fall transition outfit. I could see you wearing this at an outdoor party, very cute!
ReplyDeleteI think the best part of dressing up is the picking and choosing and wondering if it will work together. It's like we are the architects of our outfits, no? I love that you are so happy and you look radiant in these photos!
ReplyDeleteAll to well I see the joy you find in dressing- so much like myself. Fashion is great but as a tool, not a dictator, and its refreshing to be reminded that dressing up is for fun, not work. Love the stripes and the dynamic color play! Play on, buddy!
ReplyDeleteI actually really like this outfit. It's really playful, but all of the pieces work together and seem cohesive to me.
ReplyDeleteLisa.
I like this. I think that the clothes, shapes and fit balance work marvellously well on your structure.
ReplyDeleteI think that you can make the purple and orange work, actually! Neither are very saturated, so they just look cheerful and don't fight with one another.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course, the most important thing is that you are happy. Sometimes I pull my favorite things out of the closet and just pile 'em on to make myself feel good. And of course, trying completely new or random things sometimes lets us hit on great combinations by accident, or leads us to inspiration and new ideas!
