It appears to be a long black gown, but what's odd are its long, see-through laced sleeves, edged in long fringe, with matching see-through laced hoodie. A hoodie! What is THAT about?!
Tell me what you think this is. Your guess is better than mine. I have no clue.
Hi Ally,
ReplyDeleteIts one of those enchantress halloween costumes. You got a great deal and it looks good. Missing you girl...as always looking good.
It's awesome - what a fun outfit! I would totally wear that as an October party outfit!
ReplyDeletei agree with chainsoftheheard. my first thought was it appeared to be a halloween costume. thats the only reason i can think of for the hood. lol
ReplyDeleteps love your ring!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a Renaissance Festival dress. A lot of dresses and capes in that style had hoods. What a fun find!
ReplyDeletedefinitely an interesting find...how's the quality? halloween costumes are usually cheaply made. this one looks like better quality...maybe it was a costume for a theatrical production?! anyway, i like the red sleeves.
ReplyDelete[oomph.]
It does look like a costume, possibly theater? I used to have a similar garment - hooded with bell sleeves and black velvet. I used to wear it around halloween or other costume events. It always made me feel magical. I love dressing up, I am sad I haven't had as many opportunities to costume as I did in the past.
ReplyDeleteYou found a treasure, that's what I'd call it! It's fabulous. Sometimes the difference between a costume and a "real" dress is the quality of the fabric and construction. Can't tell from here, but I love it. It would look good with boots and a black leather jacket too.
ReplyDeletehello fringe!
ReplyDeleteXo Megan
Either Renaissance Fair costume or maybe a Goth outfit? It's actually kind of cool.
ReplyDeleteLooks like some Wiccan ritual outfit. Is it cozy?
ReplyDeleteVery cozy. The material stretches so it fits your body easily. And it's better quality than what they make for cheap Halloween costumes.
DeleteYou gave me an idea, Ashley. Maybe I can start my own religion (Allyism) and wear this while officiating as High Priestess. My first official decree is that we celebrate lots of holidays!
DeleteNow that sounds like an amazing idea!!!
DeleteHaha! Allyism is a great idea. You can start right here on your blog by wearing this every Friday with a philosophically wise topic for all of us to be inspired by. ;) You're pretty close to doing that already! I'd go to your church.
ReplyDeletepseudo-mediaeval? Not Wiccan, that should be a natural fibre (or nekkid). Although I'm lazy and figure that She doesn't care much if I'm wearing jeans.
ReplyDeleteIt is rather cool - I'd suggest boots rather than pumps, a chatelaine chain and a choker or torc.
I consulted an expert of sorts, my friend who is a Goth AND likes Renaissance Fairs. She said it is definitely a costume, but didn't define it as one or the other. She just explained that costume-makers love crushed velvet. Store-made Halloween costumes are usually pretty low-quality, but that could have been done by a hobbyist. I'm assuming there's no label inside? I once met a woman while shopping for fabric at Wal-Mart who only worked there specifically so she could use her paycheck and her discount to buy fabric for her costumer-making hobby.
ReplyDeleteGreat info, Kathy, thanks. No, no label. First thing I checked. Nice material used.
DeleteYour Wal-Mart story reminds me of several enthusiasts I know, like one who's an avid scrapbooker and works at a scrapbooking store for the same reason.
My first thought was similar to Ashley's, maybe some sort of Wiccan ritual outfit. No matter what it is, it's fantastic! It looks great on you and is fun!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like something people wear to the renfest :) I like it! You should totally make a cute costume out of it for Halloween!
ReplyDeleteThe hood makes me think it's some kind of medieval costume. But it'd be a very pretty dress if you trimmed off the sleeves and hood!
ReplyDeleteI had to read all the comments to see if anyone knows for sure, but my initial impression, after many years of raising The Costume Technician (who's now sewing in NYC!), my initial impression was handmade costume of some sort. Obviously made with lots of love - and just for you. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI like it! and the fabric is beautiful! looks like a beautiful lace dress! looking for a similar))
ReplyDeletePut some platform boots on, sing Nightbird, and I'll marry you. ;)
ReplyDeleteOkay!
DeleteI think it's a costume - and i actually love the sleeves, I've been searching for a top with fringes...
