I love dance clothes. Costumes, leotards, tights. Even shoes. There are different types of dance (e.g., jazz; ballet) so there are different types of dance clothes. I love 'em all.
For years I collected paper dance-outfit catalogs. Then the Internet arrived and we can now see the clothes by visiting web-sites. One company sends me an e-mail each morning with pictures of their stuff. Reading that e-mail is the highlight of my day.
I've kept this obsession under wraps 'cause I doubted anyone would understand. The appeal of dance-wear is two-fold: beauty and hyper-femininity. Aesthetically, they're wonderful: form-fitting, brightly-colored and well-designed. They also enhance feminine shapes, curves and physical attributes.
Propelled by confidence created in the recent experience I had with Suzanne, I'm going to break that rule today and show you an outfit I own: a glittery performance dress and canvas jazz shoes.
The dress is beautiful. Please keep in mind I wear dance clothes for pleasure, not to impress anyone. I'm just want to share some of my happiness with you.
You're not the only one that loves dancewear. Who doesn't want to imagine themselves floating, light as air across a dance floor? {sigh}
ReplyDeleteIf my husband was more into dancing we would have never given up taking lessons. I was partial to Tango dancing outfits. They're so dramatic!
You look great in this outfit and the colour is gorgeous on you with the dark hair. I hope you danced around a bit to take full advantage of the outfit.
Dress up is fun, no matter our age or gender.

Yup, I dance in this! I'm looking for a tango outfit. I saw one once in a thrift shop but it was way too small and very expensive.
DeleteWell, I think you look magical! The deep red color is so pretty- and I love the glittery skirt! I bet it moves like a dream!

That's the best thing about dance-wear: it's designed for movement. It twirls and swirls beautifully.
DeleteThere's just one word for this and it's wow! Wow for the outfit and wow for having the confidence to go public wearing it. xxx
ReplyDeleteThat is a very nice outfit.
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I like to watch "Dancing with the Stars". She likes the dancing and I tend to be partial to the outfits
Confession: I watch the show SOLELY for the dance costumes!
DeleteAlly, it makes me so happy to see you like this and I sincerely hope you continue. You wear this outfit well and also that color is amazing on you.
ReplyDeleteI’ve had this same fascination with dancer costumes—that ballerina skirt is so gorgeous isn’t it?!
Yup! Who wouldn't like dance costumes?
DeleteYou are definitely not alone in your love for dancewear! You know I adore Swoosh Factor - we get such joy from how our clothes move. I actually feel sorry for men who don't get this experience with their clothes.
ReplyDeleteKudos to you for showing the real you in this gorgeous ensemble. Suzanne is right - this burgundy is a great colour for you. I hope you twirl and spin and swoosh until you are completely full of joy!
I do! Thanks, pal.
DeleteMy daughters are in dance (and me too, years ago) and the costumes are the BEST. It's one of my favorite parts of dance competitions, seeing all of the different pieces.
ReplyDeleteYup! It's enough to make me want to be a girl. :-)
DeleteMe, a short and sturdy Teutonic blonde no longer young, I dream of wearing the gorgeous costumes of Japanese Noh and Kabuki theatre. (Some of the characters do wear stylized masks.) We all may dream...
ReplyDeleteIndeed. Thanks for sharing.
DeleteFun! What is a dance outfit but a costume? What is a costume but something to wear?
ReplyDeleteI grew up wearing leotards and leggings. Aside from a (very short) ballet class at age 3, i wasn't a dancer or gymnast. I just liked it.
I still find a special joy lacing into a corset or trying on heels I know I couldn't stand in (bad knees!) But clothing transforms us. It's why fashion is a huge deal. Clothes should make us feel special when we put them on.
Leotards and leggings?! I'm so jealous!
DeleteI read this on the train before but my phone is so awful, I can't comment if there are already comments on a post which is annoying! Your dance outfit is gorgeous! I love the flowing nature of it. I had some beautiful dance outfits from our shows as a girl. My sister did this dance called 'The world is a circle that never begins' and had the most pretty dress. I WISH it fitted me now- I LOVED that dress!
ReplyDeleteI understand! Some of these dance clothes are so amazingly beautiful. Thanks for sharing, Kezzie, and supporting me on something I cherish. You're the best.
DeleteMay I say you look amazing in that outfit? It really suits you and I hope you had a lot of fun dancing in it.
ReplyDeleteDancing is one thing, IMHO - the freedom just to be, the pleasure of the moment, and to be moved by the music - and doing that while feeling good about how you look is a wonderful feeling.
