Over the past few weeks I re-watched the entire "The Sopranos" series from beginning to end, all six seasons. Last night was its conclusion.
The way the show ended is famous for how viewers reacted. Do you have a theory on what it meant? What happened? Why the show's creator (David Chase) chose that?
Worst Ending Ever - I honestly thought my cable box broke. Then I wanted to break it. I felt betrayed, manipulated and lost. Like a great book that after investing time to read it the author failed to include the last chapter for publication.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people felt that way.
DeleteI haven't seen it before, but apparently it's a show I need to be watching!
ReplyDeleteIt's brilliantly written and engaging, but it's also violent so be careful if you're squeamish.
DeleteRobert and I were thinking of rewatching it again. I think they left it like that so you could debate the ending. I've always said they were taken out, I don't think Robert agrees with me though. What do you think?

There's a brilliant discussion of the ending here, with two smart TV critics debating different ideas about it -- https://www.vulture.com/article/the-sopranos-ending-explained.html
DeleteIf you want to watch it, I can mail you the boxed set of DVDs.
DeleteI didn't watch all of the Soprano seasons. In fact, I don't think I watched either of the seasons to the end, just a few episodes now and then- and all that a long time ago. I have no idea how it ended and I don't remember reading anything about it. Generally speaking, I don't particularly enjoy series or films about criminals or mafia. The Godfather series would perhaps be the only exception.
ReplyDeleteSomewhat astonishingly, I've never seen the Sopranos. Watching all six seasons is high up on my TV viewing list, but until that happens, I'm afraid I can't weigh in on the ending.
ReplyDeleteDid you have a favourite season or two in particular? What about characters?

The first two seasons are the best. Later seasons seemed to invent new things to talk about.
