Cat Cafe
I walked through town yesterday and saw a sign for a new business. I didn't understand what the store will be selling -- the sign describes the place as a "cat cafe." Today, walking in a different part of town I discovered another place also calling itself a "cat cafe." This one is already open so I poked my nose inside and learned what the new trend is about.
Cat cafes have cats -- actual animals -- and let you play with them for a price ($15/hour). Both cafes serve coffee and beverages to enjoy while you're stroking a kitty.
Have you heard of this? Would you go to one?

We have one of these here in MN! I haven't been to it yet but I follow them online, they post pictures all the time and many cats have been adopted from them. Kind of a fun idea, if I didn't have my cat I would probably spend more time there!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info, Beth. I assume they're aimed at folks who don't have a cat and yearn for some feline affection.
DeleteI would love to go to a cat cafe (there is one in Vancouver: http://www.catfe.ca/), if they open one here. It's a good way to get to know a cat and see how well they've been socialized before getting them home.
ReplyDeleteDown the shore you would expect one in Asbury Park and lo and behold right on the main drag you can find "Catsbury Park". They say the concept was imported from China and the goal is to not only spend time petting the critters but to find one to adopt. No interest in going there...besides, my wife and one of my sons have pretty significant allergies to cats.
ReplyDeleteDown near the boardwalk is the world famous "Wonder Bar" which has a area devoted to being a dog park and they have their "Yappy Hours".
Asbury prides itself not only on being totally LGBT friendly but also very pet friendly.
I haven’t been to one yet but would love to go! I think it’s a wonderful idea—and you know, hanging out with animals can have amazing impact on our emotional well-being! I started doing animal-themed yoga classes (first hosts, then dogs, next cats) and I love it so much 😊 you’ll have to let us know your thoughts if you go!
ReplyDeleteThe place I saw today offers "cat yoga"!
DeleteI've never heard of this but I love the concept! I bet its calming and almost like therapy!

These were first popular in Japan I think. I know they have them in Singapore too.

Yes, you're right.
DeleteNovel idea for those who Love Animals but perhaps either cannot have one or don't want to actually have the responsibility of owning one? Yes, I'd go, Love Cats, have owned many over the course of a lifetime... and if this Trend gives permanent Home to some Felines, very good idea of a different kind of Working Cat.
ReplyDeleteWith things like baby goat yoga, it doesn't surprise me that they have cat cafes. I think it would be a great idea to have someplace to go and destress while playing with cats or dogs. I'd definitely give it a try!
ReplyDeleteYes I have heard of this. And I think it is a wonderful idea. The good thing about cats is that when they think the attention is too much, they will let you know in no uncertain terms haha.

I'm more of a dog person but I have a friend who would love this! And my friend just did goat yoga which she said was awesome too!
ReplyDeleteWe have a cat cafe here in my city and my little girl (4) looooves it! Also, its a vegan place so we like to go there for vegan cakes and coffee :)
ReplyDeleteI have heard of these, but have never visited one. I would be more down for a puppy/dog cafe! But seriously, such a cute idea.

I think this is a brilliant idea and I have heard of it before and if memory serves me right, it was in Japan. I'd love a cat cafe in my area - I miss my kitties so much.
ReplyDeleteDid you hang out with the kitties?
Hugs my friend
There's been a cat café in a nearby city for a year or two. I've walked by - bit never with our two hounds 😁 - and not gone in. Partly because it's a coffee shop (when you could have tea and cake 😉) and partly as I'm allergic to cats.
ReplyDeletePlease do share if you go in.
I never heard of this either. One time visited a store that specializes in engraving nameplates, the owner had two friendly cats roaming around.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea, but haven't been inside one. Coffee and cake and wee creatures - sounds like heaven to me, xo.
ReplyDeleteThere are a few in Toronto but not up where I live (just north of the city). I see it a novel and unique idea but it’s kinda bizarre to me. But hey, if people love it and it brings them joy and in turn the animal is benefiting, why not! :)
ReplyDeleteWe actually have one here in Nashville - The Mewsic Kitty Cafe (music City). It's really more of an animal shelter/adoption agency. I haven't been despite driving past it almost every day. They keep odd hours and you have to have reservations. I hope they are doing well though. It's such a cute idea.
ReplyDeleteI've heard of them and I really like the idea of them!!!! Still not been though! There are dog cafes too, I believe!
