Side-eye is a relatively new expression but the idea behind it is not. The greatest instance of side-eye goes back to this famous photograph from the Sixties of Sophia Loren looking -- and virtually commenting upon -- the dress of Jayne Mansfield.
Sophia, now 84, is still alive. She acted in her last film only five years ago. Do you know her?
Two outstanding, classy beauties from back in the day. Too bad Jayne died so young. Sophia keep her beauty forever.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very classic side eye! And yes I do know Sophia Loren. She's in the Grumpy Old Men movies that were filmed here in MN! :D
ReplyDeleteYes, she is!
DeleteLove that pic! I've heard so many different stories about it.
ReplyDeleteThat photo is so iconic.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Pat. Sophia Loren's beauty has never faded.

Someone gave me that card once - I'm not sure which of the women they thought I was like. Both? Thank you so much for the Christmas card, by the way, Ally. It's been happily adorning my desk at work. :)
ReplyDeleteNot so sure it's Jayne's dress Sophia is giving the side-eye! xxx
ReplyDeleteYes ! I do know Sophia. In fact a few years ago I had the opportunity to see an exhibition of her wardrobe collection of movies she had performed in.. it was marvelous . I was surprised at her measurements.
ReplyDeleteSophia is beautiful and so is Jayne … I would also be side eyeing Jayne as she could quite easily have popped out of that dress. I wonder if they had / knew about the wonders of double sided tape in those days??
