I went to Tucson this weekend and it was hot. 107 degrees hot.
The Arizona desert is surrounded by mountains and has a unique beauty. You expect the place to be barren but there's plenty of animal and plant life surviving the harsh environment. Here are some pics.
I absolutely love your photos! The desert sure is an amazing place. My country (Australia) has some beautiful desert areas with amazing fauna and beautiful ancient indigenous rock paintings.
Every time I visit the area I am stunned with the raw stark beauty of the desert. The way that the hills and mountains just seem to emerge from the desert floor is very interesting. Every time I have gone I have flown into Phoenix, Tuscon or Palm Springs but when I get free time I do hope to do a driving tour of the area.
That is wildly hot. The closest to the desert that I've ever been is Mexico and it was right after we lived through Hurricane Wilma and we were trying to get back home to Canada. That was a an adventure in itself. It was blistering hot too. Then there was the time in Vegas but I dont think that counts. I really wanted to go on the off beaten path when we ventured into old Vegas. Rent a car. But....we didn't. Next time maybe. Love the pictures.
I have never been to a desert, but would LOVE to go to Arizona. Though maybe not this time of year. That seems very hot :)
Oh! I thought of you the other day while Bryan and I were at the sanctuary. I was trying on a sweater over my head in the gift shop and Bryan just picked one out in his size and put it on the counter. The man asked if he'd like to try it on and he said "nope, it's in my size," and I wondered if this was another one of those men are from Mars/women Venus kinds of situations where we tend to do things differently :)
Absolutely. Before I started shopping for women's clothes, I never tried on items in the store. Men are taught there's something suspect about caring for your clothes or appearance. Most men worry about appearing effeminate.
I have never been to a desert and gosh, I don't know whether I could stand the heat to be honest! I don't work well in hot temperatures, so this wouldn't be my kind of destination.
You can almost feel the heat coming off those photos! 107°F, that's almost 42°C, which is so hot I cannot even imagine. I've never been to a desert, but judging from your photos, the animal and plant life in the Arizona desert looks amazing! xxx
Your photos are amazing! I love the little lizard. That sounds wayyy too hot for me! I was in Australia's Red Centre last year and the temps were that high during the day. It's crazy!
Ooooooooooooooooooh, the lizard, the lizard!! So cute! I really like him/her! I only know of Tucson because the divine Henry Grubstick from Ugly Betty came from there!
Cacti! I've never been west. I have family who live in Tucson (if they are still alive. I'm not in touch), but I've never been. I do live in Satan's armpit though! It's been a miserable hot summer.
Awesome photos Ally.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to a desert but my hunny has hiked through the Fish River Canyon in Namibia which is in a desert.

I'm super-eager to visit your country and explore its natural beauty.
DeleteI had to use a lot of moisturizer out west :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to Arizona, but good friends of mine go all the time and love it! It's such a pretty landscape, despite being so stark + severe. :)

ReplyDeleteThese pictures are fabulous Ally! I have not been to the desert before, I would like to someday. Maybe in the winter though, haha!

ReplyDeleteSo hot! We stayed there one night on our road trip. I want to go back when it's cooler because it seems like such fun city.
ReplyDeleteI've been to Arizona before and it's been extremely hot! Looks like you had a great trip though!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics! I'm dying to go out west - I just want to hike through some canyons or the desert!

ReplyDeleteI don't care for the heat when it's that hot.
ReplyDeleteI went to Arizona this winter for a blogger meet-up and loved it. I had been before but not for years.
Lucky for me the temperatures weren't that steamy when I was there. Honestly I don't even know how people can stand to go out when it's like that.
It was 37 C which is getting very close to the 107 F and I just don't like to leave the house. Nor does my pug.
Great photos!
