Planning my first Fall outfit was fun. (So is alliteration.) Over the Summer, Macy's opened a new off-price discount store called Macys Backstage. The store has fashionable clothes at steep savings. I visited one that popped up near me and saw something special -- an item I've always wanted to own but never have. It's something the cool girls had when I was growing up.
It is a faux-fur vest made to look like Mongolian sheep fur. Delicious and unusual. Instantly stylish. And on sale at deep discount for only $22.
Along with my new vest, I'm wearing a very cute pleated skirt with two rows of color which I got in the clothing-swap at the Vancouver Blogger Meetup. The skirt was brought to the swap by Greetje who, coincidentally, chose the red sweater I contributed. (She posts about it here.) I'm also wearing a wooden necklace my friend Gracey gave me showing a silhouette of the State of Oregon with a heart inside. Thanks, big buddy!
I really like this outfit. It's fashion-forward and modern. Often I get stuck in my head and choose clothes I wish I could have worn decades ago during a youth I never had instead of dressing for today. This ensemble, I believe, is more realistic and current.
What do you think? Would you wear a Mongolian sheep fur vest?
Ally you're certainly stepping up your game. I like the look and yes I'd wear the vest …. in fall.
ReplyDeleteOh, and you've got me thinking, as in school there were things I wanted that I could not have, one of them was a jean jacket. I now own several of them.
The whole outfit is fantastic. Love how the fabulous nude pumps tie in so well with the vest and necklace color. Also love the neutral nudes added to that vivacious red top and pretty skirt. This does look very modern and perfect for stepping into fall.
ReplyDeleteOh rats... you wear this skirt so much better than me. I only wore it with a black top and the apron strings tied at the front, covering most of the coloured lines. You have this gorgeous vibrant top and this modern fur vest. And the nude pumps (why didn't I think of this?).
ReplyDeleteYou styled it better than I did.
I am so glad it fits. And yes this is a beautiful outfit.
Greetje
Thanks for the compliment, Greetje. We all do our best. You look better in the red sweater than I did.
DeleteWhat's that necklace of?! I love it!
ReplyDeleteThe vest is luxuriously wonderful- I love fur gilets! And that skirt is such a treat! Love it!x
P.S. It is SO not fall yet!x
The necklace has the silhouette of the state of Oregon with a heart inside. It was a gift from a friend who lived there (Gracey).
DeleteYes yes! to that vest (I have to check out Macy's Backstage on my October visit). This is a very modern and chic look, and you look fab.
ReplyDeleteYou look like you are going out to a lovely brunch with a friend. That skirt is indeed excellent for you! I think Mel of Bag and a Beret has a vest like that, but in chartreuse.
ReplyDeleteWhere are we meeting for brunch? I'm ready!
DeleteYou should have fun with style and experiment. If it feels right, it is right. It's a cute outfit, and a modern one (and you avoided the ubiquitous fur vest- skinny jean combo, good work!)
ReplyDeleteI really miss all the great fall fashions that you can see on the streets in New York. Thanks for keeping me up on it. Such a cute necklace.
ReplyDeleteI adore that skirt on you - I don't even remember it from the swap! You must have snagged that quickly!
ReplyDeleteI have tried the furry vest thing - it's not me (adds too much bulk to my boobular region).
I love the vest on you! They never look quite right on me, alas, so I'm enjoying yours vicariously.
ReplyDeleteAlso the strappy pink wedges from a few posts back...
Love this faux fur vest, it's adorable...and how you styled this entire look, it's pretty ! Many, many kisses my friend

Stunning. Love the table pose.
ReplyDeleteThis is a common issue with trans people I meet.
I would totally wear the vest!
The necklace looks like you love toast to my undeducqted eye :-D

Ally, awesome first fall outfit! Love it, love it, love it! Every item looks great on you and that skirt fits you perfectly, great take home, my friend. Yes, I would definitely wear a sheep for a vest.
ReplyDeleteThat outfit is great, from the gilet down to the nude pumps! Even though the gilet is furry, the neutral color still lets the fabulous skirt take center stage. That's a great, current outfit.
ReplyDeleteThis entire look is divine on you--love the skirt, the vest, and most importantly, your confidence :) you look stunning :)
ReplyDeletePs--I have been looking for a pair of perfect nude pumps and finally found them--they really can complete a look, eh? So much love to you :)
Such a cute Fall outfit. Love how you took risks and went with the faux fur vest and the full skirt. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteDaphne.
I love the skirt you scored!
ReplyDeleteI agree that this is a bit more contemporary.
I used to own a sheep vest like that when I was in grade 10. I wore it with tight jeans, a boho blouse and light blue fringed boots. No joke. How many times have I thought back on that outfit and wished I'd kept all of it?
bisous

I really like you chose nude pumps with your outfit, it mirrors the colour of the fur vest!

I would itch myself to death with the faux fur vest lol. I have allergies that's why I say that. But honestly, it looks really good on you. I love that it brings out the color of your top. And living in the fashion capital of the world can be difficult. It took me awhile to find my style in NYC. And I know you will find your own style as well..

Awesome vest! What a great find. And I really love the skirt you scored at the swap. It looks so good on you and I love how you styled it! You look ready to meet me for a drink. Let's meet halfway. I think that'll put us somewhere in Nebraska. ;)
ReplyDeleteSuch a splendidly fun outfit! I love how your pumps and fur vest match. That really gives the look a great sense of harmony.
ReplyDeleteHere's to the marvelousness of autumn attire and all the fun outfits we'll each be sharing featuring it in the coming months!

You really did it, you found your glad girl . That vest is very Oh la la, and so of the moment, I LOVE it. The skirt, ( formerly of Greetje) looks amazing on you.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping to see more of these, but I love your everyday posts, as you always write so well.
Thanks for telling me about the new Macy's outlet!

love it.. you look abit Woodstock in this outfit :) AND do you know you have the BEST Legs???? so lucky!!! looking good hawt stuff :)
ReplyDeleteI love it! I was drawn to the furry vests when recently shopping in Ontario, but after trying them on I shied away, I felt like a Yeti, I am just too short and stocky :( I also tried a felted floppy brim hat and it was too big and my face disappeared in it.
ReplyDeleteYour look is cohesive and just lovely!
PS i did find a hippish accessory a shawl wrap that goes from varigated black to solid black. I love it and feel chic in it.
I certainly would wear a vest like that but boringly with a pair of black slacks and a black top.
ReplyDeleteI love the color strips on the skirt. It's so fun.
ReplyDeleteThe faux fur vest is fabulous!
ReplyDeletePlayful, chic outfit - I like how you used the top to pull out the coral shades in the skirt. Being petite, I don't think I could ever pull off a vest like that - but what a fun piece!
ReplyDeleteWhat an unique combination! I love the heels and the faux fur vest. It's so much fun.
ReplyDeleteLove a good alliteration and love that vest. You will be able to do so much with that during the coming season. Don't know if I've mentioned it before, but you have some killer legs!
