Relaxing Bath

My work is often stressful and I look for ways to relax.  I recently discovered that baths are very calming.  I light some candles, fill the tub up with warm water and descend into bliss.

I'd like to add some fragrance to the bath but have no idea how.  What are bath salts?  What is bath oil?  I looked in several drugstores but ended up confused.  Do you have any advice or recommendations?  All help is appreciated.

Do you take baths?

  1. I like baths. I like them when I'm sick or don't feel well. Bath salts affect how the water feels and makes your skin feel, I like the (non-drug form lol) of unscented bath salts. I'm not sure about bath oil, but be careful with essential oils in the bath!

My vote is pick scented candles or an essential oil burner. Also look into aromatherapy to figure out what scents can help promote what you want to achieve. My mom used to have a good friend who made and sold oils. Peppermint to wake you up or calm menopausal hot flashes, citrus for refreshment, lavender or patchouli for comfort. Of course, your own scent preferences should take into account as well.

  2. I used to bath every day but now I rather shower as it helps time wise.

When I do get into the bath it is usually with a book (last week I spent 3 hours in the bath with Danielle Steel).

I am not one for smelly stuff in the bath ... it is just me and hot water.

  3. I love lavender baths at bedtime it is so relaxing! For wake-me-up I use rosemary mint essential oils. Don't buy cheap bath stuff it can be irritating to skin.

  4. Bath pillows are awesome! I like to put a handtowel in between my back and the back of the tub. If I am using candles, then I don't use another light source. I like bubble baths occasionally, but they can be be drying. A goodtime to take a bath is on the night you change your sheets. I learned baby massage for my sweeties and for relaxation, you want to use downward strikes away from the heart, so for the arm downward strikes from shoulder to fingers. You can put your post bath lotion/moisturizer on this way and give yourself a small massage. Also, cucumbers on eyes are funny and make yummy snacks.

  5. Get a nice fruit smelling bubble bath from Avon! I looove baths, but I don't have a bathtub in my apartment, so I go to my moms house to use her huge jacuzzi tub about twice a month :D

  6. Don't use bath oil! Its very slippery and leaves an oily residue that last for days and makes egress from the tub quite dangerous.

Bath salts tend to break into chunks instead of dissolving like it is supposed to. I would stick to high quality bubble bath. And um.....be careful with Mr. Bubble...it can really sting some parts!

  7. I love bubble baths for relaxing, usually with a book which I drop in the water at least once. Not sure what brands you have over there but I find bubble bath with lavender can be quite nice - its worth spending a little more money on a good quality skin care brand from a pharmacy.

  8. When I want to just relax in the tub I pour a lot of really good smelling body wash under the running water and take bubble bath. No need to get something expensive, the Suave brand makes wonderful remakes of popular scents from Bath and Body Works.

  9. I've recently rediscovered the joys of having a bath, a nice glass of wine and a good book are my usual recipes.

Recently I bought a christmas gift for someone from LUSH online and I noticed how lovely the bath bomb smelt so I bought some for myself, I'm totally addicted to them now. I did get one once that had glitter in it, took weeks to rid my bathroom of it (even the dog got glittery somehow).

    1. There's a LUSH near me and I saw them demonstrate the bath bomb -- very cool! Thanks for the advice, buddy.

    2. I'd recommend Lush too, except the glittery ones. They also do a great shower jelly called Whoosh! You can store it in the fridge to make it more of a zing when you use it.

We got rid of our bath to have a big walk in shower instead. I stay in hotels quite a bit for work, so I always take Lush stuff and a trashy magazine to red in the bath there!

  10. I nearly always have showers for quickness, but when I do get a chance to have a bath I lie there for ages and just keep topping it up with hot water. I like candles and music, putting on a face mask and a hair treatment, but I don't bother much with bubble bath, bath salts etc. because just about everything I tried irritated my skin and left it dry and itchy, didn't seem to matter if it was cheap or expensive. xx

  11. I love having baths but I rarely get time to spend more than 10 minutes in one so I tend to stick to showers. When I do get time they are bliss though. I use bubble bath, or one of those fizzy bath bombs from LUSH - I like to fill the room with a nice relaxing scent to help. Ah bubbles.

And you can't beat relaxing in the bath with a nice cup of tea - same temperature inside and out!

  12. I can't stand baths, I'm so bored in them. I don't know how my sister can spend 3 hours in a bath tub. I would say maybe use candles for a nice smell instead of bubble bath but I'm so not an expert at these kind of things

  14. LUSH is good!! I also use my friend Mandy's Olio Luxe products. She literally hand-makes bath salts and bath teas and you can pick which ones you want for different things.

She's my high school buddy and very girly. Everything is wrapped in pink and all that stuff lolzzzz I am in love with her Emu Serum and use it on my face after a shower.

  15. Lavender oil is great for aiding sleep! My mum makes her own bath fizzers (you can find recipes on the net!) which use shea butter and essential oils- they make your skin really soft and lovely! Like the above, I recommend Lush!

  16. I use leftover shampoo as bubble bath - there is something decadent about mounds of bubbles in the tub. For a soothing soak for your skin, nothing beats good old baking soda (it's wonderful on sunburned skin). It will leave your skin feeling soft, but not oily.

Epsom salts can be purchased very cheaply at the drug store - they are excellent for sore muscles.

Stay away from bath oil beads - they're cheap, messy and don't smell good. Natural products (like stuff from Lush or the Body Shop) are best. Try a few things and see what you like best.

  19. OMG great minds! I just told Kyle that I wanted to start taking baths! I bought some basic lavender scented bubble bath from CVS and I am hoping to use that to start. My friend is a huge fan of Lush, and gets bath-bombs from there, they always smell great :)

  20. I'm one of many women who cannot add 'anything' at all to bath water. Its safest and healthiest for me to shower. In the three and a half years we've been in our current house, I've bathed in the bath but once.

It looks wonderful and the romantic notion of a bubble bath with champagne and candles sure entices me ... however, knowing the after effects I have no option but to decline.

    Enjoy your soaks sweet Ally.

  22. I have a bathtub i cannot use because my neighbor downstairs says its leaking. We've had 6 plumbers in and it still seems to leak-
I wish i could take baths. long ones, but even if i could use my tub, i have no time.
Call me silly, but when i could i would just use Mr Bubbles. Salts did not seem to work for me.
