One of my closest friends, Emma, just gave me an old film camera that belonged to her father. Made in 1977 the Minolta XG-A is a 35mm SLR with detachable lenses.
My first real camera was also a Minolta. I got it as a teenager and played with it for years. I learned how to develop and print film in a darkroom. It's been a half-century since I shot 35mm film and I'm excited to return to that format.
The camera from Emma is shown above; here's a photograph I took back in the 1970s of my first car (fish-eye lens).
My first 35mm camera - Minolta SRT 101 with 1.7 lens. Later got a 1.2. And, still have it. I have a lot of great photos of my kids growing up, taken with that camera.
ReplyDeleteThat's the model I had! It's great you still own it.
DeleteMy mom had a camera like that back in the 70s (1976 to be precise). My dad accidentally ran over it while we were in LA to see Disneyland.
ReplyDeleteHa! Funny anecdote. I once put my expensive camera on top of my car, then drove off forgetting about it. My girlfriend at the time loved to tease me about that.
DeleteSounds like a great camera. They did make some brilliant things in the 1970s. Brilliant photo too! xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteCongratulations! My first 35mm was a Yashica FX-3 Super 2000. It's probably buried in a box somewhere in my apt.
ReplyDeleteThanks. We always remember our first one.
DeleteOh how cool! Congrats on the new addition. And thank you so much for the sweet note, Ally- so cool that the glass piece of artwork was featured in the NYT!
