Billiards

Most of you know that billiards is one of my passions. The pandemic disrupted the fun when local pool halls closed down; they eventually went out-of-business. There's no place to play nearby so today I trekked way out to Bayport to try VIP Billiards. It was okay -- no atmosphere but decent tables. No VIPs there except for me.  :-)

My ultimate goal is to get a pool table of my own which I'll set up in my future playhouse. Because I'm not boring I want to buy one with contemporary style. Here are a few options I'm considering. Do any appeal to you?

  1. In spite of the increased difficulty that unyielding pocket design and the larger size posed, I was always very fond of the challenges of Snooker. Those are definitely classy and modern tables.. What about something Art Deco?

  2. The first one with the blue baize is wonderful! I like the angular design. I also like the hollow one - I imagine sitting inside the table. :)

  3. I like the black and silver and the white/orange. It depends on the room it's going in I suppose. The purple one looks a bit dated to my eye.

I never really played by "the rules" but growing up I had several chances to play around with pool tables. My only personal preference in a table was preferring the ones that gathered the balls inside, not having to scoop out of each individual pocket. Haha.

I think with my dexterity these days, I'm better off with table air hockey.😂

    1. I share your preference for a "ball-return" but, ironically, the higher priced tables lack them. I guess the feature, while useful, is seen as plebeian.

  4. I like the second one. You just reminded me that I need to take a selfie playing pool.

  5. That first photo looks really familiar ; P

What a shame that those places also went out of business. The pandemic has destroyed so many businesses.

  6. Sorry but I prefer the old fashioned vintage ones!!!😁
My grandpa used to play Snooker at Romford Snooker Hall where lots of our great British players trained like Ronnie O'Sullivan. He bought a Snooker table before he died. I always thought it was a shame he didn't get to play at home for years but must have been fun in his last days.

    1. They have their own appeal, it's just not how I want to decorate.

  7. Pool is fun even though I'm awful at it! No coordination at all. The second photo calls to me the most out of these, but honestly, I kind of like the old vintage ones!

    1. Vintage tables certainly have appeal. And you can have fun shooting pool even without talent. When I play with novices I suggest we each shoot three shots and then alternate, which gives everyone a chance to enjoy the game.
