I've never been thought of as dainty and feminine, attributes I'd enjoy possessing. Which led me to this dress, one with a very traditional style. It's unlike anything I've ever worn before. I found it in a thrift-store ($10) which made this a cheap experiment. The dress has pretty buttons and a lacy collar.
What do you think? Is the dress nice or do I look like a sister-wife?
I love the dress! I think Kat Von D has worn something similar and I loved it then too.

That's adorable and reminds me of Wednesday Addams!!!x
ReplyDeleteVery unusual with the high waist. Normally would have expected a lower waist with the more traditional style collar and buttons. Love the lace collar. The flowers add a nice touch too. What on earth is a sister-wife?!

On a normal-sized gal, the waist would be lower. A sister-wife is one of the several wives married to a polygamist. (The TV show "Big Love" was about that type of arrangement.)
DeleteIt may be the time of year but this definitely has 'vintage Thanksgiving' written all over it. You look like you're waiting for the pies to finish so you can serve up to family and friends in a semi formal turkey dinner
ReplyDeleteHa! Perfect.
DeleteI love to thrift "sister wife" dresses; they're actually fun to wear sometimes! And I agree with Megan (Hi, Megan!!!) that this has a great "vintage Thanksgiving" vibe to it that makes it perfect for this time of year!
ReplyDeleteThat's one thing I like about the thrift store - the ability to try out a new look for an affordable price. Beautiful collar!
ReplyDeleteWhile I love the idea of trying out something new this is not one of my favourite outfits of yours. You are brighter and more joyful than this dress.
ReplyDeleteThe extra high empire waist is unnecessary when you have mile long enviable legs already.
Your beautiful spirit still manages to shine through.

Thanks, buddy. I agree with you. But it was valuable to see what would happen. I find my way by bouncing off of mistakes.
DeleteI love the dress, but I would pair it with sassier shoes.
ReplyDeleteI thinks it is super pretty, and looks good on you.

It's a pretty dress but it does reminds me of a Pilgrim dress. It's very prim and proper - which can make it fun to wear for a change. I think the way it falls over your hips is very flattering. Now you have the perfect dress for serving your Thanksgiving dinner. You just need to find a fancy apron to wear over it!
ReplyDeleteThanks. And I'll never turn down a chance to buy a new apron. :-)
DeleteI love this dress, it has a vintage allure and I would wear it with combat boots because I prefer an edgy mix between styles ! Looking good my friend, many kisses and a good start of the week

Those boots would be a smart choice. Never thought of that.
DeleteI like the dress, but for you I prefer garments that give you a waist and a but shorter, so you can show off the legs.
ReplyDeleteHaha, wow! I think this is a nice steal for 10 dollar. As long as you like it, it is good. Thats what I think :) thanks a lot for your last comments! I was happy to read you are with me when it comes to the environment!
ReplyDeleteSending much love!

I love classic, vintage pieces like this. The lace detail on the collar is beautiful. Can't believe you snagged it for $10! Definitely a fall look!

I love the features of the dress but if you're feeling like you want to change something on your $10 look. You could always detach the collar and then you have it for lots of different looks. You could even take the sleeves shorter if you wanted to change the feeling. Long sleeves and long skirts are always associated with a more vintage feel to me.
ReplyDeleteWell, this is Ally at 80... No, it's cute, but it does make you look a bit older. And yes, it is a bit conservative.
ReplyDeleteDainty and feminine... OK, I get the allure if you've never felt that way, but in reality it's not much fun. When you look like the ultimate girly girl, cute and sweet, people tend to treat you like a half-wit. Trust me, I know: I've always been short, kind of girly, and I used to have to put up with a lot of that alpha male crap when I was younger. But then again, in my head I'm a tall Amazon...
Good valid points. Our life experiences differ so much. I can learn a lot from you, Tiina.
DeleteI like it! It definitely has a bit of a sister wife feel to it, but I don't mind that. When I saw it though I first thought of the pitchfork picture (you know what I'm talking about right? With the husband/wife?). I think with some high heels (longer legs!) and a cute purse you can kick it up a notch and make it a bit more feminine :) YOU, my dear, are adorable. Always :)
ReplyDeletewith a style like this, i definitely think color makes a huge difference. you might have seen it in a different light in the color yellow, for example.
ReplyDeleteYou're right.
DeleteDefinitely experiment with this collar on other dresses and tops. It would be cute on a sweater set and Capri combo!
ReplyDeleteVery 50's
For me this definitely looks like a "sister wife" outfit! Although I LOVE the collar!!! Experimenting is so exciting though!
