The Rockettes
If you're a girl who likes dance, chances are you love The Rockettes. I do. I just bought tickets to see their new show, "New York Spectacular" which opens next month.
The Rockettes are a world-famous troupe of dancers who perform at Radio City Music Hall. They've been doing it for 85 years. The Rockettes are best-known for their perfectly-synched choreography and high-kicks. 36 of them perform in each show.
I love their athletic skill -- these are real dancers, not pretty showgirls. Their costumes are always amazing. And the vibe at their shows is one of pure girly delight.
At the time Radio City was built, it was the largest theater in the world. You can't believe how impressive the place is -- the stage is actually several stages that can move independently by hydraulic pumps. For big shows, they move things around and knock your socks off.
I'll report on the show next month. Have you ever seen The Rockettes?
No, I've never seen on of their shows. Although I do like a good dance routine I prefer more couples dancing like Tango or swing.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy the show! I'm pretty sure you like to envision yourself up on the stage with them, am I right?

*blushing* You nailed me!
DeleteNo, I've never! Hope you have a great time and can't wait to hear your review. I think you're right though. From what I have seen, it appears the shows are perfectly choreographed to showcase the dancers' athletic abilities. Sounds like a great time!! PS: love the boots and rain gear in the video.
ReplyDeleteIf the show is good (and I believe it will be), we can go together later this Summer. It's running until August.
DeleteI saw the Rockettes years ago, OKay make that decades, but I loved it! I think I would like it more now! Enjoy!

I haven't seen them, but it's definitely on my bucket list. :)
ReplyDeleteWorth the effort. They're so impressive and entertaining.
DeleteI've been past the Radio City Music Hall building, but never seen the show. My bf's grandmother was apparently invited to join them back in the day and her father would not allow it!! Pretty cool, huh?
ReplyDeleteI've never seen them but naturally I've heard of them. I'm jealous you're going to see them. Bet it will be amazing.

You know the toy soldier routine they do at their Christmas show every year - and they do that weird falling back catching each other thing? (Look it up if you haven't, it's cool) Well, in dance class my teacher wanted to experiment to figure out how they do it and put me on the end of the line to catch everyone since I was the biggest. I had to plop on my butt bearing everyone's weight over and over again. It wasn't until just last year when I saw how it's supposed to be done. There's a spotter that supports the end girl and a thick stunt pad behind the last girl. I had nothing but my own butt and will power... I need an award. HA HA HA!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a story! Yes, I've seen them do that routine.
DeleteSo fun!!! History fan that I am, I just adore that the Rockettes have been strutting their (talented!) stuff for over ninety years now. Seeing them in person would definitely be high up on my to-do list if I was in the Big Apple.
ReplyDeleteHave a fantastic week!

One of my friends that I danced with always said how she wanted to be a Rockette. Sure enough, once she turned 18, she moved to New York to audition, didn't make it her first year, but did the second year. She is no longer a Rocket, but loved her time being one.
ReplyDeleteI still haven't had the chance to watch the Rosettes live, but I hope you enjoy the show! :)
