Dance Fever

A little while back, I confided to you guys that I love dance.  I never had to chance to do it, but my attraction for the art never went away.

Last week, I was walking through Target getting something practical and I saw a striking pair of white gloves with furry fringe.  Although intended for outdoors, they look very theatrical.  A few minutes later, I ran across a sheer bodysuit whose price was drastically reduced.  It didn't take more signs than this for my mind to conjure up exciting images of dance-costumes and believe the Dance Gods want me to play with them.  Think "Cabaret" with Liza Minnelli.

A day later, on a trip to the mall, I wandered into Claire's and saw arm-warmers.  I was sure they'd go perfectly with the bodysuit so I picked them up for $8.

Here are the results.  Please keep in mind that this look is more fantasy than reality -- nobody goes to the supermarket in this!

  1. I lovelovelovelovelovelove the black arm warmers. Ugh, they're perfect.
Those white gloves are so diva-tastic. I would wear them all the time and tell minions to fetch me things.

BTW, I do sell autographs. They are $50 each. Because I'm worth it.
And because I am a graduate student planning a wedding.
    I need money.

  2. Gorgeous. I love how the outfit came together bit by bit. The leggings are my favourite piece while the armwarmers are just inspired. It's a really lovely look, Shy, and on that I think can be styled and restyled in lots of different ways.

Yes, I think this outfit was fated the way you came across everything, and you not only had fun with it but made it all work together perfectly! Yet another step toward fulfilling your dreams checked off the list!!

  5. I love the first combination, I mean really really love it. :) The furry gloves are gorgeous but maybe with something else. :) Wish I could actually go dancing in a costume like this.

  9. Whew... I'm relieved. After posting this last night, I started worrying about how you guys might receive it. I wasn't sure you would see it in the spirit I intended. Thank goodness, you did.

I want my blog to reflect the real me and not censor it to appease people. (I do enough of that in real life.) If I ever cross a line and upset anyone, please write me and we can talk about it.

BTW, I agree with the comments: the arm-warmers work but the gloves don't (even though I love them). I'll have to find another use for the gloves; perhaps an outfit with more white in it.

  10. wow, I love how you are really giving yourself permission to have fun with this and listen to the callings (ie. stuff you see on sale :)

I love the arm warmers.. what about finding a dance class that you could join, maybe even somekind of cabaret style thing? That could be so fun!! and think of the people you would inspire!!! dare ya :P

Happy Sunday, and thanks so much for sharing this journey with us, it is really inspiring!! xox J

  11. I agree that the arm warmers work better than the gloves, even though the gloves were the catalyst!

Now I really need to have Kiddo watch Cabaret so she understands the reference. I had some pretty fantabulous tap outfits as a teen, but she had only a bit of toddler ballet. Should make for a fun night!

  12. But here's the thing. I NEED that entire outfit for my aerial act. Seriously, what a great costume to perform in. I love it. You are my hero!

  14. I found a new word for you: sesquipedalian! You'll see why it made me think of you when you look it up (or you may know what it means already). This has nothing to do with the post, but I had to share when I came across the word just now! ;)

  15. Ow Ow! I love this look! You could wear this to my favorite place Luna's here in Royal Oak. They have dancers that wear clothes like this and a lot of the patrons do the same. Such a fun look!

  16. Thanks, guys. I appreciate your comments.

I'm going to slow things down a bit with a beautiful dress I found today in a discount-store. Really, really lovely. Very feminine and full of ruffles. I'll try to post pictures of it tomorrow.

  18. You look slamming! I didn't even know arm warmers existed but you rock them! I hear you about loving the art of dance- I am starting Zumba dance this week but am very nervous about the coordination that is required and that I am lacking! I also adore the shimmery bra part of the bodysuit- grr!

  19. Wowza, you got quite the outfit going! Definitely getting the Liza Minnelli vibe ;) You look wonderful! Those arm-warmers are brilliant.

  20. This is ridiculous... and by ridiculous I mean ridiculously awesome! I very much believe there are two sides to fashion- the practical and the impractical. The impractical is always more fun, but not necessarily what we live our lives in. I do think it's important to indulge in it, however. That's one of the greatest things, I think, about having a fashion blog; It gives you the platform to do that.

I think the arm warmers are my favorite part. So fun! You look completely impractical, and I love it.

  21. I love this look ... I guess the Leo in me loves a little drama and dazzle ... you got both in this outfit :0)

  22. Hot damn! I like this a lot! I agree with Meg: this is ridiculous, but ridiculously awesome. And I have to say, I really like the scarf along with everything else!

I must have missed when you stated you like to dance. That's very cool. I like to dance too, I just am horrible at it.

  23. Meg is right, of course. But look at it this way -- I explore the outer-limits of fashion so you don't have to. :)

And, if I discover something fun (e.g., arm-warmers), you can adopt it for yourself!
