A Milepost

Whew! Minutes ago I finished my last PT session (physical therapy). In the therapists' expert opinion I've returned to "normal" and don't need more rehab.

I'm now migrating to a gym where I'll continue getting stronger on my own. That is the path I want to travel. It's hard to exercise regularly but, when you do, you see results. When I soap up in the shower now I'm amazed feeling hardened muscles in my body. Just a few months ago I was an atrophied, skinny mess -- unable to even stand up from a chair.

As Yogi says, that's the thing about life: "it ain't over 'til it's over."

  6. That’s wonderful news, Ally, congratulations on finishing PT!

    It must feel so empowering to hear the therapists say you’re back to “normal” after everything you’ve worked through. Moving on to the gym sounds like such a positive next step, and very true to the determined path you’ve set for yourself.

    It’s amazing how the body responds when we give it steady care and effort. Being able to feel strength returning, literally under your hands in the shower, must be such a rewarding reminder of how far you’ve come. From struggling to stand up from a chair to feeling solid, hardened muscles… that’s real progress, and you earned every bit of it.

    Wishing you continued strength and motivation as you build on what you’ve achieved. You’re doing brilliantly.

  7. My mom goes to PT every two weeks to keep herself strong as the Post-Polio Syndrome gradually reduces her mobility. They marvel at how much muscle she has from her decades as a race-walker. It's definitely reinforced for me how important muscle mass is.
    Way to go on the muscles, Ally! Keep getting stronger! So proud of you!

    1. Thank you, pal. Scientists are now recognizing muscle as the key determinant of health in older people. They used to believe it was unimportant but now see it as vital.

      I admire your mother's efforts to walk frequently with you. Her attitude is rubbing off on her daughter!
