Fragrance

I have far fewer years experience being a girl than you, so I have lots of catching up to do.  One area I need to improve on is beauty and fragrance.  Which is why a Christmas gift from Emma -- a Birchbox subscription -- was so perfect.

In the first box, there's a fragrance I love.  It appealed to me right away and I've been wearing it every day.  It's called Hello by Harvey Prince.

Previously I wore White Diamonds by Elizabeth-Taylor which was a gift from Sara last year.  I enjoy that perfume but it's heavily-scented, the kind of dramatic perfume you'd wear to a glamorous party.  It's too intense for normal life.  I like my new fragrance because it's light and pleasant.  It has floral and citrus notes, and works well on my skin.  I've learned that perfume changes once it hits your body.  This one blends nicely with my personal chemistry.

Do you have a favorite fragrance?

  1. I don't wear perfume on a daily basis...usually only for special occasions. Most perfumes I find too strong/overwhelming and wind up giving me a headache!

  2. Sounds lovely, I often forget to wear perfume but when I do, I love light floral notes.

  3. I like to smell like a bakery. I go for seasonal novelty scents like cupcakes, pies, cookies, things like that.

  4. One of the things I have a lot of, besides shoes, is perfume. I feel like I can never have enough. However, with that said, I have a couple that I wear most of the time. They are White Musk by The Body Shop and Crystal Noir by Versace. I like spicy, masculine scents and these fit the bill perfectly.

  6. Rush - Gucci. I've been wearing that for ever. (it really hurts me that I can't afford that now. It's a luxury I really miss). I like the friendly name of your new perfume!

  7. I think your new perfume is so new it's not on Fragrantica yet! Fragrantica is a free website for perfume review. It lists fragrance top, middle, and bottom notes. They pressure you to join after you've been on their site several clicks, though. Haven't been spammed by them, so they seem harmless.

If you like citrus over light florals and sweet scents, you might like the perfume I wear, too. :D It's Nina by Nina Ricci. They used to carry it at Macy's, but I'm not sure if they do any more. I can put a scented piece of paper in the next card I send to you. :D

  8. Oooh, yes I do! It's Chanel Chance eau Fraiche (the green one). It's kind of weird, but I'm obsessed with the shade of green. And the scent is perfect for me--light and citrusy, with hints of floral and some woodsy notes--very fresh, as the name implies. I bought a bottle last year with Christmas money, have worn it daily since, and I'm still only halfway through it!

I'm so glad you love the Harvey Prince one. Every girl needs a signature scent!

  9. I used to wear perfume regularly until I had my son ... since then even my favourite perfume gives me hay fever so I go without. So glad you have found one that you love.

  10. Several, and they're mostly older fragrances. I have some which are good all year round, others which feel more seasonal to me. Ready for the list? Chanel: No. 5, Anateus, Pour Monsieur. Guerlain: Mitsuoko, Apres l'Ondeè, Vetiver, L'Heure Bleu, Chamade, Vol de Nuit. Coty: Chypre (discontinued but occasionally pops up on eBay), Eau de Coty Ambreè. Worth: Je Reviens. There are several others, but I can't recall them right now. Another good site, particularly for history, is Perfume Shrine. Historically, perfumes were not aimed specifically at men or women, they were used by both. It's only recently that marketing has split them so much, which is a real pity.

Have fun playing with perfume, it's such a wonderful indulgence!

  11. I love perfume but I'm so picky. My favourites so far are the original Christina Aguilera scent, Davidoff Coolwater, Theirry Mugler's Womanity and CK Eternity. I want to explore some more soon but I'm very hard to please on that. It takes me awhile to get attached to a perfume and I need to really love it

  12. I wear two perfumes ... Aromatics by Clinique which I get tons of compliments on and I've been wearing it for about 20 years now and the newest is Omnia by Bulgari (the brown bottle). I think women eventually find a signature perfume and for me that's my aromatics but I do like to try new ones but always end up back at aromatics.

I always enjoy these posts of yours

  14. I love Oh, Lola by Marc Jacobs. My husband took some time getting used to the fragrance but it's sweet and floral without being woodsy and I love that. I even carry a roller ball in my purse, just in case.
