Friends To The Rescue

I have to be honest with you.  Life has been hard the past week.  No electricity (still!), no heat, and no hot showers (except at the Y).  As if that wasn't enough, we are now being hit with another storm -- it's snowing outside my window!

The temperature in my house has dropped into the 40's and, at night, it's barely bearable.  As perky as I usually am, my mood has been heading south from these hardships.  I needed some relief -- and I finally got some today.

The mail brought a melange of birthday wishes from my friends.  They make me feel so much better.  The warmth of these dear people sustains me.

I received a lovely card and two bottles of terrific nail-polish from Emma.  I got pretty cards from Megan and Sara.  And, from sweet Toadmama, I got a veritable party!

Toadmama sent me a collection of gifts so perfect that she must be a mind-reader.  They include a t-shirt with the customized Betty Boop image shown above.  I *adore* Betty Boop and have seen all of her cartoons.

Also in the box are a pretty compact (how'd she know I needed one?), a purple scarf, a Betty Boop doll with her hair up in curlers, a statement ring and assorted goodies.  Wow!

I don't know about you, but friendship is a boat that keeps me afloat emotionally.  Gestures like these from lovely pals mean the world to me.  Are friends as important to you?

  3. What fun. But I'd love to know you're getting power soon. That would be a good birthday gift.

  4. I am so glad the package finally arrived and that you liked it as much as I hoped you would! You're such a good friend, you deserve the best. Amy spotted the compact, which we both agreed was perfect for you.

I love the display pics you shot for this post. :-)

One last thing... the shot glass may seem a bit out of place, but I figured you might prefer a tchotchke from my state as opposed to a frog to remind you of me.

  6. I'm so sorry you're still dealing with the effects of the storm. I'm glad you still got some special goodies from your friends on your birthday. I wasn't sure if my card would make it to you or not.

We woke up to no water this morning, but thankfully it's back on this evening. Here's hoping you get your electricity and heat!! back asap. Keep warm.

  8. I've been thinking of my NY friends as it's been sleeting here in Philly- I knew you guys would get some of this storm, too. I hope that somehow things get better soon!

What lovely gifts and mail you got. :-) You have nice friends.

  10. Ugh! I was hoping that by this point you would have had power already. Are you in one of the areas that won't be seeing any till mid-Nov?

As for the gifts, they're all so sweet! And to answer your question, yes great friendships are essential. I usually don't have the easiest time finding people who I can truly connect with, but the connections I have established are very much important to me.

  14. Aw, so glad that we were able to bring a bright spot to your cold home! It sounds really rough...I'm guessing all the nearby hotels are probably booked up?

  15. What wonderful gifts from such wonderful people.
I am so sorry you are still without electricity! We had an ice storm several years ago and were without heat/electricity for 4 days. We do have a gas water heater so we had hot water (but boy getting out of a shower is an experience!) We have a Tempurpedic bed and getting into it was like laying on rock. Once you got it warmed up it was nice, but until you did it was not fun. I wish you the best in the coming days.

  22. This power outage is seriously affecting everyone. Thankfully, we got power back a few days later, which helped us clean everything out after the flooding in our place. I have been so out of it + I can't remember if I wished you a happy birthday. If I didn't, I apologize - I've been so scatterbrained the last two weeks.

The birthday goodies are fantastic! What wonderful friends you have!

  23. Oh, no, Ally. I was reading the paper this morning, and was worried that you still don't have power. And now it's snowing? I'm hoping you get some relief soon. I love your birthday gifts, and must get to the mailbox soon. Crazy schedule of work and kids and early dark puts the kibosh on my best laid plans. I miss you lots, and am praying for warmth and power for you.
